Lawrence Cenk Laws is an Associate Attorney with the HMA Law Firm, who is licensed in Virginia. He is a part of the firm's Afghan Asylum team and also specializes in SIJS cases. Prior to HMA, Lawrence worked at Tucker, Nong & Associates, PLLC, where he worked primarily on asylum cases (both defensive and affirmative) and on SIJS cases. He has also done extensive legal research on temporary protections especially with respect to those granted to Syrian refugees both here and in Turkey. He holds a B.S. in International Politics from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, a J.D. from The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, and an L.L.M. in Public International Law from Koc University in Istanbul, Turkey. During his J.D. program, Mr. Laws gained a certificate in Comparative and International Law. His L.L.M. thesis focused on international legal protections with respect to linguistic minority rights. He currently serves on the board for the Capital Area Muslim Bar Association (CAMBA), American Turkish Association of Washington, DC (ATA-DC), and the Gay Professional Men of Color (GPMC). Lawrence is bilingual in English and Turkish.
